Ok, so, here is what went down (so far)

In a nutshell:

  • I’m a program officer and communications manager at SIMN

  • Active community member: Board secretary and volunteer at The Sanctuary, host of Boonton Coffee Co.’s Literary Open Mic

  • Through Sailboat Writing my after-school classes and translations reached over eight thousand students;

  • Masters in Media Studies, Social Sciences BsC, Media Management certificate, Public Leadership student

  • Sociologist, with research on migration, loneliness and neoconservatism

  • Funny, at times

I was born in the Bixiga neighborhood in São Paulo, Brazil.
Confronted by social inequality from a young age, I took an interest in politics and cultural diversity. Fascinated by art, I’ve always wanted to combine storytelling and social change.

I studied social sciences at FESPSP Humanities School, winning the PIBIC research grant, developing two independent researches on representations of loneliness on film and what it can teach us about isolation and its consequences. I got a certificate degree in media management from FAAP, developing a project that united Nietzsche and contemporary art.

I was a screenwriting intern at LB Entertainment, an educator at ChinaArteBrasil and a researcher for O show da História/History Show.

In 2018, I moved to the United States for a Masters of Arts in Media Studies at The New School, in New York city. I worked as a researcher in projects on migration and the history of technology. Interested in the sociocultural catalysts that allowed for the political insulation of neoconservative communities, I developed research on former president Bolsonaro’s favorite youtubers and their characterization of the United States.

In 2020, I got my US permanent resident card, started tutoring and in five months had my own education company, focused on after school classes about Writing, English and History - looking to bring positive representations of the Global South and entertaining critical thinking development to classrooms k-12 across the United States. In a year, reached over eight thousand students and their families.

During my time working from home, community became a priority. In 2021, I moved to my beloved town of Boonton NJ. There, I started a consistently packed monthly literary open mic at and joined the team at The Sanctuary, where I weekly host Poetry Club.

In 2023, I returned to school, now a student enrolled in Harvard University’s Public Leadership Credential. I’ve been loving it.

In 2024, I joined the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) full-time as a program officer in order to help combat misinformation around refugees and asylum seekers, cooperating with the UN and other global-scale stakeholders to raise resources for their 250 shelters worldwide.

Sofia did an amazing job reviewing our script for TV animation, with a very thorough feedback, both written and through call. We were able to get fair pointers where polish was needed and good technical advice regarding software.
